An AAA game based on Robert Jordan`s acclaimed fantasy series “The Wheel of Time” is officially in development. It is confirmed to be an open-world RPG, according to an exclusive report by Variety.
Development is being handled by iwot games. The studio is led by Craig Alexander, a veteran of Warner Bros. Games and former Vice President of Product Development. His previous credits include work on titles like The Lord of the Rings Online: Mines of Moria.
The upcoming game is expected to deeply respect the original lore of the source material, incorporating numerous references and original elements from the books. It will reportedly explore a prequel story set within the expansive Wheel of Time universe. The development timeline is currently estimated at around three years, with a planned release on both PC and consoles.
Iwot Studios first acquired the rights to the Wheel of Time book series for various media, including film, television, video games, and comics, back in 2004. The decision to move forward with a major AAA game project was reportedly spurred by the significant success of the recent Amazon Prime Video television adaptation.
