Abby Confirmed as Lead for The Last of Us Season 3

The upcoming third season of the acclaimed HBO series “The Last of Us” will shift its primary focus to the character Abby, moving away from Ellie as the main protagonist. This development was confirmed by the showrunner, Neil Druckmann.

“I can`t believe they let us structure the show this way,” Druckmann commented. “I mean, we just finished season two, and the main character of season three will be – spoiler alert – Kaitlyn [Dever].”

The television adaptation of the popular game “The Last of Us” premiered on January 15, 2023. It received positive reviews and audience ratings; for instance, users on IMDb gave the show an average score of 8.7 out of 10, while visitors to the Russian platform KinoPoisk rated it 7.9 out of 10. The second season is reportedly set to be released on April 13, 2025.

Previous reports have also detailed viewership trends for the series. On its premiere day, the final episode of the second season was reportedly viewed by 3.7 million people. This figure represents a 30% decrease compared to the second season`s premiere episode, which attracted 5.3 million viewers in a similar timeframe. By comparison, the finale of the first season garnered a significantly higher 8.2 million viewers on its premiere day. Overall, the show`s subsequent season appears to have seen a reduction in its audience size, with the first season averaging around 37 million viewers per episode globally, compared to approximately 32 million for the second season.
