ATF Reveals Reason Behind Using Legacy Layout in Dota 2

Team Falcons offlaner Ammar “ATF” Assaf has revealed that he uses the Legacy control layout in Dota 2. He shared this detail in a video on ESL`s YouTube channel.

ATF mentioned that he has always used Legacy controls, although he acknowledges that the standard layout is much more convenient. However, he believes that playing with Legacy makes the game less boring. “This is real Dota,” Assaf stated. The player also clarified that not all heroes have unique Legacy layouts, and for some characters, ability keys are repeated.

The Legacy layout was originally used in DotA Allstars in Warcraft III. Instead of the familiar Q, W, E, and R keys, each hero had custom ability buttons. Changing these keys was only possible with third-party software. However, this software was more commonly used to remap inventory keys, as WCIII used the Numpad for inventory management.
