Playground Productions has officially announced the release date for the highly anticipated Backyard Baseball `01. This classic title, receiving a significant modernization, is scheduled to launch on July 8, 2025. Fans will be able to play the game on PC, iOS, and Android devices.
The updated version is being developed once again by Mega Cat Studios and is confirmed to feature 28 of the original 31 MLB professional players. Iconic names returning to the virtual sandlot include Derek Jeter, Alex Rodriguez, Sammy Sosa, Mark McGwire, and Cal Ripken Jr.
Through a collaboration between the publisher and Major League Baseball, Backyard Baseball `01 will incorporate official MLB team logos, names, and player likenesses, providing an authentic feel alongside the nostalgic gameplay.
Understanding modern gaming preferences, the controls for Backyard Baseball `01 have been optimized for both touchscreen interfaces common on mobile devices and traditional mouse and keyboard setups for PC. This ensures a smooth and enjoyable experience, free from the potentially clunky controls of the original game.
The release of Backyard Baseball `01 follows the successful re-releases of its predecessors, Backyard Baseball `97 and `98, on PC. Notably, Backyard Baseball `97 also saw a broader relaunch earlier this year, becoming available on iOS, Android, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch.
