Electronic Arts is reportedly planning to incorporate a “battle royale” mode into the next installment of the Battlefield franchise. Hints of this addition have been discovered by dataminers within the files of a test version of the game.
Dataminers explored the data of the new Battlefield as part of the Battlefield Labs closed testing program. They found mentions of a “battle royale,” a mode that has been rumored in the media previously. It is believed that Ripple Effect studio (known for Command & Conquer, Medal of Honor, and Battlefield 4) is responsible for developing this mode. The “battle royale” will be a free-to-play mode featuring solo, duo, trio, and four-person squad matches, including an armor system, loot of varying rarity levels, upgrade kits, and weapons.
EA has been working on the new Battlefield for several years, aiming to “reinvent” the franchise. The studio intends to release the game before the end of March 2026. To ensure a successful launch, EA is conducting several phases of large-scale testing, including the Battlefield Labs program.
