Brazil Gives Apple 90 Days to Allow Third-Party App Stores

A Brazilian court has once again ordered Apple to permit the installation of third-party app stores on its devices. The company has been granted 90 days to comply with the ruling.

This decision echoes a similar order issued in 2023 following a complaint from the Brazilian e-commerce firm MercadoLibre. Apple had successfully appealed for a delay in implementing the original decision, but the court has now reverted to its initial demands.

Brazil is not alone in demanding such changes from Apple; other major markets are also applying pressure. For instance, the European Union court recently imposed a €500 million fine on the company for failing to make its device ecosystem more open. In the United States, the corporation faces threats of criminal prosecution due to its reluctance to comply with regulatory requirements.
