Developers of Concord, created by former employees of Firewalk studio (known for the failure of Concord), appealed to gamers. This happened after players began comparing the shooter Marathon from Bungie with Concord and criticizing it. Concord developers asked not to compare the unreleased Marathon with their own failed game.
After the gameplay of Marathon was shown, people on the internet started saying that Marathon is a “successor to Concord” or “Concord 2.0”. Concord developers reacted to this. VFX artist Stefan Williams wrote an open letter on Reddit in defense of Bungie. He spoke about his feelings regarding the situation around Marathon and the closure of Concord, and asked gamers to give the developers of Marathon a chance. Williams emphasized that these are different studios and asked “not to punish Bungie for Firewalk`s mistakes.” In conclusion, he added that gamers need to be kinder because video games are created for fun.
The release of Marathon is scheduled for September 23, 2025. The game will be released on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S. Alpha testing of the game will begin on April 23. You can register for testing on the official Discord server.
