Developers of Hit Game PEAK to Focus on Smaller Projects

PEAK, the cooperative climbing simulator developed by Aggro Crab and Landfall, quickly surpassed the one million copies sold mark just days after its release. In an interview with PC Gamer, the creators discussed how this success has influenced the internal processes and creative direction of both teams.

Although the direct development took place within a Korean game jam and lasted only four weeks, work on the core concept began much earlier. Initially, the game was envisioned as an open-world survival experience, but at Landfall`s initiative, the developers decided to concentrate on the climbing mechanics, moving away from the large-scale format.

Aggro Crab`s previous game, Another Crab’s Treasure, required three years for development and marketing. According to Marketing Lead Paige Wilson, working on the more compact PEAK helped the team recover from burnout. The success of this smaller title not only proved its commercial viability but also inspired the studio to focus on creating more concise yet impactful games in the future.

Landfall holds a similar perspective. Community Manager Hanna Vogelberg noted that such projects bring more satisfaction than large releases like Totally Accurate Battle Simulator, on which the team worked for three years.
