Renowned game designer Hideki Kamiya, who recently returned to Capcom with his new studio Clovers, shared his thoughts on potential remakes of projects like Devil May Cry and Viewtiful Joe. He discussed this in his YouTube video.
Kamiya expressed a strong desire to create a remake of the very first Devil May Cry game. He admitted that he hasn`t replayed it himself since its release, but videos he sees online make him think about its outdated design aspects. According to Kamiya, modern technology and experience would allow for a complete overhaul of the first DMC, remaking it from scratch. However, he emphasized that these are just thoughts and concrete plans would only emerge if Capcom gives approval. Besides DMC, Kamiya also mentioned his wish to update the beat-`em-up series Viewtiful Joe.
The original Devil May Cry game was released in 2001, initiating the famous slasher series. The last main game in the franchise came out in 2019, and an anime adaptation set in the universe is expected to be released on Netflix in 2025.
