Dexter Lives! New Trailer for Dexter: Resurrection Teases Return and Batista Chase

Showtime has unveiled a new teaser trailer for the upcoming series “Dexter: Resurrection”. The short preview confirms the return of Michael C. Hall`s titular character, who, perhaps unsurprisingly to some, appears to have survived the events of “Dexter: New Blood”. More significantly for long-time viewers, the trailer features the return of Detective Angel Batista, hinting at a core plot point: Dexter is now on the run, and Batista is on his trail. The new series is slated to premiere on July 11, 2025.

Following the rather definitive – and widely debated – conclusion of “Dexter: New Blood” in 2021, where Dexter Morgan met a seemingly final end, “Resurrection” picks up with the forensic expert turned vigilante having found a way to continue his existence. The premise, as revealed in the trailer, centers on Dexter`s relocation to New York City as he embarks on a search for his son. However, his past refuses to stay buried, and the inclusion of Angel Batista suggests that the consequences of his previous life, particularly in Miami, are catching up to him in a very direct manner.

The original “Dexter” series, which ran for eight seasons from 2006 to 2013, garnered significant critical acclaim and a dedicated fanbase, praised for its unique concept and Hall`s compelling performance. The show maintains strong ratings, holding an 8.6 out of 10 on IMDb and 8.3 out of 10 on Kinopoisk. A limited series revival, “Dexter: New Blood,” aired in 2021, bringing the character back for a single season that concluded with a controversial ending which led to its cancellation. “Dexter: Resurrection” now positions itself as a direct continuation, picking up the narrative threads after the events of “New Blood”.

The prospect of Dexter navigating a new urban landscape while being hunted by a familiar face from his past life – someone who was formerly a friend and colleague – revives a classic dynamic from the original series. Fans will be watching keenly to see how Dexter evades detection in the dense environment of New York City and how his confrontation, or cat-and-mouse game, with Batista unfolds. For those who felt “New Blood” didn`t provide the desired closure, “Resurrection” offers another chance, albeit one that requires accepting yet another improbable survival for Miami`s most prolific secret killer.
