EA Cancels Titanfall Extraction Shooter Project, Lays Off Hundreds

Electronic Arts has announced significant layoffs, impacting between 300 and 400 employees across various departments. According to journalist Jason Schreier, approximately one hundred of the affected staff were from Respawn Entertainment.

Alongside these job cuts, EA has completely ceased development of an unannounced extraction shooter, internally codenamed R7, set within the Titanfall universe. This project was still in the early stages and was far from a potential release.

In an official statement, EA framed the layoffs as part of a “targeted restructuring” aimed at aligning with the company`s long-term strategic priorities, offering no specific details regarding the cancellation of the R7 project.

These recent changes follow previous challenges for EA, including revised financial forecasts due to weaker-than-expected demand for EA Sports FC 25 and prior layoffs at BioWare after Dragon Age: The Veilguard performed commercially below expectations, selling 50% fewer copies than anticipated.
