EA Sports is celebrating the standout players from the 2024-25 NHL season with the introduction of the Team of the Season (TOTS) program in NHL 25. Unlike the Team of the Year (TOTY), which assesses player performance over a calendar year, TOTS focuses specifically on achievements within the current season.
The TOTS announcements will roll out over three weeks, starting now with the first six celebrated athletes:
- Connor Hellebuyck, Goaltender, Winnipeg Jets (94 OVR)
- Cale Makar, Defenseman, Colorado Avalanche (94 OVR)
- Zach Werenski, Defenseman, Columbus Blue Jackets (94 OVR)
- Nikita Kucherov, Right Wing, Tampa Bay Lightning (94 OVR)
- Leon Draisaitl, Center, Edmonton Oilers (94 OVR)
- Nathan MacKinnon, Center, Colorado Avalanche (94 OVR)
MacKinnon, Kucherov, and Draisaitl are currently leading the NHL in scoring. Makar is the top-scoring defenseman, while Werenski is second among defensemen. Hellebuyck is the leading goalie in the NHL, topping the charts in wins, save percentage, and goals-against average.
MacKinnon, Kucherov, Makar, and Hellebuyck were previously honored in the TOTY selection, making them part of an exclusive group recognized in both prestigious programs.
In addition to the TOTS reveal, EA Sports congratulated Alex Ovechkin on his record-breaking 895th career goal. They highlighted a remarkable statistic from their game series: from NHL 07 to NHL 25, players have used Ovechkin to score an estimated 216,347,405 goals. While this figure is likely extrapolated, it underscores Ovechkin`s enduring impact and virtual goal-scoring prowess over many years.
