Electronic Arts and BioWare have officially announced the impending closure of the online shooter Anthem. According to a statement published on the game`s official website, the servers will be permanently shut down on January 12, 2026. After this specified date, access to the game will be completely discontinued.
As of the publication of this announcement, purchasing premium currency within Anthem is no longer possible, however, any remaining balance can still be spent before the servers are turned off. The developers expressed gratitude to the community for their years of support and noted that the decision to end service was made following a thorough analysis. Anthem was originally released in February 2019, initially positioned as an online-focused cooperative action game set in a science fiction universe.
In a related FAQ, BioWare clarified that the game cannot function in an offline mode because it was originally designed to require a constant connection to the servers. Anthem will remain available in the EA Play library until August 15th, after which it will be removed from the subscription service. Owners of the full version of the game will still be able to download and launch it until the final shutdown date of January 12, 2026.
