Fortnite Cheater Caught After Winning $6.8K, Now Owes $175K

Epic Games has won a lawsuit against a gamer who participated in Fortnite tournaments using prohibited software. The developers of the popular battle royale shared details of the court case on platform X.

Between June and October 2024, Sebastian Araujo took part in 839 small regional Fortnite tournaments. To gain an advantage, he used cheats, bypassing the anti-cheat system with a special device. During this time, he earned $6,850. Eventually, his actions were discovered, and Epic Games filed a lawsuit. The company demanded compensation of $200 for each event, as well as coverage of legal expenses. In June 2025, the court found Araujo guilty and ordered him to pay a fine of $175,000.

This is not the first time the creators of Fortnite have sought compensation from players for using prohibited software. For instance, in February, Epic Games required a former esports player caught cheating to return their prize money and publish a video apology on YouTube.
