Gate Anime Announces Second Season After Ten Years

Genco has officially announced that the anime series “Gate: Jieitai Kanochi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri” will receive a second season. This highly anticipated continuation comes a full decade after the original show aired.

The upcoming second season is titled “Gate 2: Tides of Conflict”. The narrative is expected to shift focus to the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force. Following the storyline from the light novel, another gate mysteriously appears in the world, this time located in the sea. Japan aims to secure exclusive access to these newly discovered interdimensional portals and dispatches a team of military researchers to achieve this goal. Studio M2, known for works such as “Pluto” and “Onihei”, will be handling the animation production.

In support of the second season`s production, the creators have also initiated a crowdfunding campaign. Different contribution tiers offer various rewards to fans, including access to exclusive character concept art, production updates, the opportunity to have their name listed in the show`s credits, autographs from the creative team, and even a potential cameo appearance in an episode. A specific release date for “Gate 2: Tides of Conflict” has not yet been announced.

The original “Gate: Jieitai Kanochi nite, Kaku Tatakaeri” anime is an adaptation of the light novel series written by Takumi Yanai and illustrated by Daisuke Izuki. The first anime series, which adapted the initial light novel arc, aired from 2015 to 2016. It consisted of a single 24-episode season that was presented in two distinct cours (broadcast periods).
