During their adventures in Genshin Impact, players collect numerous items through story quests, world exploration, and other activities. Many of these items serve vital purposes: gadgets like the Memento Lens and Strange Feather are essential for completing specific tasks, while others like the Parametric Transformer and Omni-Ubiquity Net aid in resource accumulation. Yet, within this vast inventory are some items that feel utterly pointless. This article highlights these least useful possessions.
The Fate Meter
Shaped like a magician`s hat containing a deck of cards, the Fate Meter is acquired upon completing Lynette`s Hangout event. In her story, Lynette utilized the gadget to help make a tough choice, basing her decision on a drawn card`s number (1-15 for one option, above 15 for another). The in-game item mimics this: placing the hat in the open world causes a card with a number to appear. Sadly, its utility ends there. It functions purely as a simple randomizer that offers no gameplay advantage, serving merely as a charming, though functionally useless, souvenir.
Despite its intended pointlessness, players have devised creative uses for the Fate Meter. When playing with friends, it can be used to randomly select characters for a team by assigning the card`s number to a character`s slot in the roster. This element of surprise can lead to entertaining challenges, forcing players to adapt with potentially undeveloped characters.
The Elena Perfume Bottle
The Elena Perfume Bottle is another gadget acquired from a character`s Legend Quest, specifically Emilie`s. The narrative of a unique fragrance with a poignant history, crafted by a renowned Fontaine perfumer, weaves throughout her story, making the bottle`s receipt a natural conclusion. The in-game bottle boasts an exquisite and elegant design and can be added to the quick-select wheel. When `sprayed,` it produces a small field of light-purple mist around the character, followed by a brief cooldown.
Regrettably, the bottle offers no functional utility beyond its aesthetic appeal. While the Fate Meter found unofficial player-invented uses, the Elena Perfume serves primarily as a charming commemorative item and another small interactive element that players appreciate purely for fun.
The Boom-Boom Box
The “Boom-Boom Box” is a relatively new addition, distributed as a gift during Genshin Impact`s September 2024 anniversary event, bundled with a new dragon companion, Wishes, and Primogems. These celebratory gifts have become a cherished tradition, symbolizing the game`s generosity during milestones. Despite its name, the box resembles a paper bag featuring a melancholic face, likely a Pyro Slime. Like certain other gadgets, it can be deployed in the open world. Its operation is straightforward: players attack it until it detonates. The in-game description suggests that hitting it with friends grants the exploder good luck for the day.
While undoubtedly charming, this toy provides minimal practical benefit. Nevertheless, it can be incorporated into player-made games with friends; for example, in conjunction with the Fate Meter challenge, the player who causes the Boom-Boom Box to explode could earn the right to go first.
The Crystal Butterfly Bubble Blaster
This gadget, bearing a somewhat complex name (“Hydro-Speaker `Crystal Butterfly`”), was a gift from the previous anniversary event in 2023. This “water gun” was bundled with an octopus companion and other valuable rewards characteristic of such celebrations. Despite its elaborate title, the device resembles a standard water gun but features an elegant design reminiscent of a cosmic blaster. Its sole function is to emit a small stream of soap bubbles that vanish after a few seconds. The blaster also has a brief cooldown period.
The device offers virtually no practical utility: the bubbles don`t interact with the game world`s objects, and their limited number prevents any meaningful decorative application. Nevertheless, for players with friends in the game, it provides an opportunity for unique photoshoots involving the bubbles, with one player operating the blaster while another captures the image.
Potions
Potions are distinct consumables that, similar to food, temporarily enhance certain character statistics for a limited duration. They are crafted through alchemy, utilizing ingredients like lizard tails, frogs, butterflies, and various flora or local specialties. Despite possessing potentially valuable effects, such as increasing Elemental Damage or other character attributes, potions are largely rendered useless in practice.
In the open world, defeating adversaries is achievable with nearly any team composition, even those with only moderately leveled characters. These temporary buffs are simply not required, save perhaps for complete newcomers (who are likely unaware of their existence). Their potential utility lies in more challenging combat environments, such as the Spiral Abyss. However, potions, like food, are prohibited within the Abyss. Consequently, a game mechanic with the potential for tactical enhancement is left entirely out of place, leading many players to completely forget about its existence.
