The moment many gamers have been eagerly anticipating has arrived, albeit with a slight twist on expectations. Grand Theft Auto VI now has a definitive release date: May 26, 2026. This shifts the launch from the previously speculated fall 2025 window, adding just over a year to the wait time for players.
In an official communication, developer Rockstar Games expressed regret for the later-than-anticipated launch, stating, “We are very sorry that this is later than you expected.” The studio acknowledged the significant level of interest and excitement surrounding the upcoming Grand Theft Auto title, describing the community`s reaction as “truly humbling for our entire team.” They also took the opportunity to thank fans for their “support and patience” during the final phase of the game`s development.
According to the statement from Rockstar, the decision to extend the development period was made because the additional time is required “to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve.”
This next installment in Rockstar`s widely popular urban crime role-playing series is among the most intensely anticipated video games ever, particularly given that over a decade has passed since the release of GTA V in September 2013. Despite the high anticipation, the only official glimpse provided so far remains the single trailer unveiled in late 2023. Notably, the recent release date announcement did not coincide with the reveal of any new visuals or gameplay footage.
Rockstar did indicate, however, that more information about the game is expected to be shared “soon.” This suggests that fans may potentially see new footage or learn more specific details about Grand Theft Auto VI within the next few months.
