Several major Hollywood film studios are reportedly making money from unofficial movie trailers created using artificial intelligence. This is according to a report by Deadline, based on their own investigation.
The media outlet states that companies including Warner Bros. Discovery, Sony, and Paramount have found a way to monetize these AI-generated trailers. Instead of issuing DMCA takedown requests for channels posting AI-made videos that mimic real trailers, these film companies have reached agreements with YouTube. The video platform now shares advertising revenue from these channels with the copyright holders.
Despite these efforts to monetize AI content, only a small portion of these videos are actually claimed by the studios. The owner of the channel Screen Culture, a prominent source of AI movie trailers, mentioned that only about 10% of his uploads receive copyright claims.
