The lead actress of the recent “Scream” franchise installments, Jenna Ortega, has disclosed the real reason behind her decision to not participate in the seventh film. Her statement was reported by The Cut.
According to Ortega, her exit was not motivated by salary disputes or scheduling conflicts. She stated that “the situation with Melissa [Barrera] happened, and it all just fell apart.” Ortega elaborated, “If the team I loved couldn`t be involved in `Scream 7`, then it felt wrong for me to do it.”
In November 2023, the studio dismissed Melissa Barrera from “Scream 7” following her social media posts in support of Palestine. Ortega announced her departure a day later, without specifying her reasons at the time. Rumors circulated suggesting her exit was due to schedule clashes, prioritizing the second season of “Wednesday” and the “Beetlejuice” sequel. Subsequently, director Christopher Landon also left the project a month later.
