Larian Head Explains Why Baldur’s Gate 3 Won’t Get DLC

Larian Studios head Sven Vincke explained why the studio decided against developing downloadable content (DLC) for Baldur`s Gate 3. According to Vincke, the process of creating DLC felt “boring” and uninteresting to them.

Vincke stated directly that working on DLC would have been “boring.” He admitted that the studio did consider the possibility of creating expansions, especially given the game`s success and potential profit.

However, after attempting to plan the process, the team realized it wasn`t the right path for them. Sven emphasized that for players to be happy, the developers also need to be happy, and their current projects make the Larian team happier than working on DLC for BG3 would.

Baldur`s Gate 3 was released in August 2023 after several years in early access. The game received numerous awards and generated significant revenue. Larian had previously shared interesting statistics about the players.
