Riot Games has started testing a new feature for the League of Legends in-game store: skin previews. The developers announced this addition in the patch notes for update 25.13.
The LoL team aims to allow players to evaluate cosmetic skins based on their actual in-game model, not just the static illustration. Some players may now see a new button when browsing skins in the store. Clicking this button currently plays a preview video from YouTube, demonstrating how the skin appears during a match. This functionality is still in a testing phase and is only available to a limited number of players. Riot Games indicated they would periodically enable and disable these previews, adjusting the format based on player feedback. The developers have not yet provided a timeline for when the skin preview feature will be permanently implemented.
Previously, for a considerable time, the League of Legends client only offered the ability to preview the basic champion model when players examined abilities. To see how a specific skin looked in actual gameplay, players were required to seek out third-party content creators on platforms like YouTube and other social media.
Patch 25.13 for League of Legends was released on June 24th. In addition to introducing this new skin preview test, the update included a new battle pass, revisions to the quest and champion mastery experience systems, a fresh variation of the ARAM map, the return of the “Arena” game mode, and numerous other changes.
