LEC and LTA Modify Spring Split Formats Post Fearless Draft

Two major international League of Legends leagues, LEC and LTA, have announced changes to their spring split formats following the introduction of new rules and feedback from fans. Explanations for the updated LTA and LEC schedules have been shared on social media and official websites.

LEC (Europe) has completely eliminated best-of-one matches. Now, all regular split games will be best-of-two in a round-robin format. The playoff stage, which will include the top six teams, will be best-of-three using a Swiss system. All series will use the Fearless Draft rule, where champions cannot be picked again after being used. The spring split in LEC will run for seven weeks, from March 29th to June 8th.

LTA (North and Latin America) has decided to keep best-of-one matches for the initial part of the split. The spring split will also last for seven weeks, with the first three weeks featuring standard matches, and the remaining weeks using best-of-two series. In the first stage, teams will be seeded for later matches, and in weeks 4-7, teams will compete in two groups. The top six teams will advance to the playoffs. The LTA split will begin on April 5th.

Based on the results of the spring split in each region, two teams from each league will qualify for the Mid-Season Invitational 2025. LCK is an exception, as they already have one representative known – Hanwha Life Esports, the champion of First Stand 2025. MSI 2025 will be held in Vancouver, Canada, from June 27th to July 12th.

Teams will compete for an invitation to Worlds 2025, an additional slot at the World Championship for their region, and a $2 million prize pool at MSI.
