Maximum Football May Update Brings Couch Multiplayer and Key Gameplay Improvements

The latest update for Maximum Football is now live. This free-to-play football simulation game introduces important changes based on player feedback.

Previously, offensive teams struggled due to the dominance of defensive linemen, making complex plays difficult to execute. Based on community input, developer Maximum Entertainment has adjusted the balance between offense and defense to hopefully create a more enjoyable gameplay experience. Players can now also utilize a no-huddle offense to increase the tempo of attacks and capitalize on momentum for decisive plays.

Maximum Football now includes offside penalties to penalize players moving before the snap, a common issue in online matches.

Another significant addition in the May update is the introduction of couch multiplayer. This feature allows players to challenge a friend head-to-head locally on a single system. However, developers have noted a known issue with assigning a controller to the second player, which might require some patience to resolve. They have been transparent about this and are working to fix it as soon as possible.

Here is a list of all gameplay changes in the Maximum Football May 2025 update:

  • Onside kicks are now reliable; uniform syncing issues fixed.
  • Practice drills no longer get stuck after touchdowns or play selection.
  • Recovered punt touchdowns now correctly award possession.
  • Star player indicator logic added.
  • Penalties are correctly enforced; AI declines unnecessary penalties.
  • No-huddle and hurry-up sequences no longer result in awkward formations or player teleportation.
  • Client-side join logic fixed; lobby privileges (like coach mode) no longer reset unexpectedly.
  • Exhibition mode challenges now track correctly; match history stats cleaned up.
  • Missed conversion kicks no longer trigger a touchback; delay-of-game positioning on extra points is accurate.
  • Sideline players and coaches react dynamically to real-time events.
  • Overtime coach suggestions respect conversion kick rules; new overtime ruleset available.
  • Play clock pauses during replays/auto-rewind; correct timing after turnovers/penalties.
  • Substitutions, depth-chart views, and challenge system revamped.
  • Substitution panels initialize properly.
  • Challenge values don`t go negative; quest requirements update dynamically.
  • Punt actions (fair catch, pickup, block) handled correctly; hot-route pass block options added.
  • Profanity filter expanded; whitelist fixes applied.
  • Multiple post-play camera perspectives added; auto-replay can be disabled.
  • Controller LED flashes, input during cinematatics, and UI prompts polished.
  • Practice mode improvements: stable previous play, non-conflicting keybinds, accurate replay behavior.
  • Demo/test features added for QA testing.

Maximum Football is currently available on PC, with a PS5 release planned for later in 2025.
