Maximum Football has taken on the significant challenge of competing with the dominance of EA Sports and is nearing a key phase on that path: its release on PS5 later this summer.
However, work is needed to make an impression on PlayStation players, as the current Early Access version available on PC and Xbox Series X|S has received mixed reviews. To address this feedback, developer Maximum Entertainment plans a major update in May 2025 that will focus on community input.
Among the most-requested areas for enhancement is blocking, and the studio has now revealed their plans to refine this aspect. The improvements target four main points: The first is improved pass protection compared to the current state, while the second focuses on the AI`s ability to choose smarter run lanes. Third, the developer aims to provide better screen set-ups. Finally, tweaks to punt blocking are intended to reduce blocked punts overall and lead to a smoother game flow.
Maximum Football is a free-to-play game that launched in November 2024. It is an ambitious title, featuring its own Dynasty Mode and striving to deliver an authentic on-field experience. While the free-to-play business model offers less security than a premium price, it is a clever strategy to lower the barrier to entry as much as possible, especially considering the overwhelming market presence of EA Sports` games.
With both EA CFB 26 and Madden NFL 26 also releasing this summer, Maximum Football`s opportunity to capture fan attention is likely limited. Therefore, the upcoming updates — and the PS5 launch — will need to perform exceptionally well.
