NieR: Automata Creator Believes AI Will Replace Game Developers

Game designer Yoko Taro, widely recognized as the creative force behind the critically acclaimed NieR: Automata, has shared his perspective on artificial intelligence potentially replacing traditional game developers. He expressed his belief that this significant shift could occur within the next 50 years.

“I think all game developers will lose their jobs to AI. There`s a chance that in 50 years, they will be treated like bards.”

Yoko Taro conveyed this opinion during an interview with Famitsu magazine, which also included insights from Kazutaka Kodaka, the creator of the Danganronpa series. Kodaka presented a contrasting viewpoint, suggesting that AI may not be able to fully supplant human creators due to a fundamental lack of innate creativity. He argued that even advanced neural networks would likely still necessitate a human operator to guide them in producing high-quality, truly innovative projects.

In related news concerning the impact of AI on employment, researchers from the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) previously reported that artificial intelligence could potentially eliminate 40% of existing jobs globally by the year 2033.
