Nightfall: Skill-Based Hero Choice for MMR Gains in Dota 2

Egor `Nightfall` Grigorenko, the carry player for Aurora Gaming, shared his perspective on climbing MMR in Dota 2. He stated that players can effectively increase their Matchmaking Rating by choosing heroes they are proficient with, especially when not competing at the absolute highest echelons of the game, such as the top 100 European leaderboard and beyond. According to Nightfall, in these top-tier scenarios, picking meta-dominant heroes becomes more crucial for MMR progression.

During a stream hosted by Luka `Lukawa` Nasuashvili, the manager of BetBoom Team, Nightfall elaborated on this point. He emphasized that outside of the extreme high MMR brackets, a player`s personal skill and comfort on a hero are more significant factors for success than strictly adhering to the current meta.

Nightfall`s direct quote highlights this philosophy: “You can raise MMR by playing any hero you are good at, unless you are aiming for the very top MMR – top 100 Europe and higher. At that level, playing `imba` heroes becomes necessary. Currently, the strongest carry heroes are Phantom Assassin, Nature`s Prophet, and Tiny.”

In related news, Vladislav `Rein` Kosygin, a player from Virtus.pro, recently achieved a remarkable 15,000 MMR while playing the support role. Rein also offered advice on hero selection, recommending players to narrow their hero pool to maximize their efficiency in ranked matches and climb the ladder.
