A test version of the standard Notepad application for Windows 11 has received expanded functionality.
Among the new features are text formatting options: changing font size, applying italics and bold, adding hyperlinks, and creating lists. Support for the Markdown markup language has also been added, simplifying editing and export to HTML or PDF.
These changes are currently being tested in the Insider Canary and Dev channels for Windows 11. The timing for the official release to all users has not yet been announced.
With its new capabilities, the updated Notepad is positioned as a full-fledged replacement for the Wordpad text editor, which was removed from the standard Windows 11 applications in 2024.
