Dmitry “NotInMyHouse” Krupnov, a well-known esports commentator, has shared his perspective on the future of Dota 2. He posits that the game could potentially regain its former popularity if a content creator, similar to Jynxzi`s influence on Rainbow Six Siege, were to emerge within the Dota 2 community. However, NotInMyHouse believes that it is unlikely for such a scenario to unfold for Valve`s MOBA.
“Let me tell you a story about Rainbow 6 Siege. A great game, complex, multifaceted, and demanding thought – in short, by many accounts, somewhat tedious.
Then it started to decline. The game became increasingly intricate, esports stagnated, and player numbers began to dwindle. Observe the trend in the screenshot – the purple line.
And then, like a beacon, Jynxzi, the hype streamer, appeared.
He had been creating content for R6 for some time, but suddenly his popularity exploded. The game became an interesting contrast to his eccentric personality, and this combination propelled both the game and the streamer to new heights. The global community even attributed the resurgence of R6, and its continued growth, solely to Jynxzi. Again, look at the chart – this time the yellow trend line.
For Dota 2 to experience a similar revival, it needs its own Jynxzi – a figure with immense passion for the game and a captivating charisma, capable of single-handedly lifting the game out of its current state and potentially sparking a renaissance.
However, my prediction is that such a figure will not emerge.
Nix could have been that person, but it didn`t happen. While Ubisoft seemingly made continuous efforts, and their shift in development direction aligned with Jynxzi`s rise, Valve`s approach with Dota 2 is different.
Jynxzi primarily focuses on creating original content, whereas Nix’s content largely revolved around reactions to tournaments. Jynxzi is more self-sufficient; his content was independent of game events, enabling him to drive a revival. Could a community caster of Dota 2 tournaments have sparked a similar revival? We will likely never know, as Valve did not capitalize on Nix`s popularity surge, and Nix alone wasn`t enough for a renaissance.
For those who enjoy the game, they will find enjoyment even on minimum settings. So, subscribers, do what you love. But for those involved in Dota 2 professionally, it`s time to start thinking strategically. It`s important to remember that the decline of Dota 2 and the decline of Dota 2 esports are distinct issues.”
Earlier, Yaroslav “NS” Kuznetsov also voiced concerns about the potential decline of Dota 2, suggesting that failure to attract players with the next major event could lead to a gradual loss of the game`s audience.
