Official: m0NESY to Leave G2 Esports

Ilya “m0NESY” Osipov, a prominent Russian esports player, is officially leaving G2 Esports` CS2 team soon. This announcement was made by the club`s CEO, Alban Stilgar Dechelotte, on X (formerly Twitter).

The CEO stated that the rumors are true and they have agreed to a deal regarding their young star CS player. He requested that comments be directed to him, as this was an organizational decision.

m0NESY`s contract was set to expire in December 2025. The organization decided to capitalize on this transfer to maximize their chances of rebuilding the team for the future, rather than waiting until the last moment.

The CEO expressed sadness at m0NESY`s departure but thanked him for the incredible moments he brought to the team. He highlighted that after four years of trophy drought under previous management, the team, including m0NESY, achieved significant success in the last two years, winning six trophies, including IEM Cologne and IEM Katowice.

It became apparent that the situation had created some distance between m0NESY and the rest of the team. Furthermore, uncertainty about his future made it difficult to have meaningful discussions with potential new players. With the decision made, G2 aims to make the most of the remaining three championships of the season and simultaneously start building a promising roster for the next season.

G2 prides itself on being a top-tier organization across multiple esports, including League of Legends, Valorant, and CS. They have a proven track record of developing rosters and turning players into stars. When expectations aren`t met, they are prepared to rebuild and start anew.

The CEO pointed to past successes in other games as examples of their ability to rebuild, mentioning LoL`s eight trophies and 11 finals out of 11 possible after the 2021 season, and Valorant`s first American VCT victory and Masters final appearance after roster struggles in 2022 and 2023. He assured fans that CS would be no exception. Despite the difficulty of departures, they are excited about the potential of a new roster.

He concluded by saying that G2 are samurai not because they always win, but because they always rise again.

m0NESY joined G2 in January 2022. During his time with the team, they won several major tournaments, including BLAST Premier: World Final 2024, IEM Cologne 2023, and IEM Katowice 2023. Rumors suggest that m0NESY will be joining Team Falcons. According to insider Guillaume “neL” Canelo, this transfer is expected to be the largest in CS history.
