Studio People Can Fly, known for its work on the Gears of War series and the shooter Bulletstorm, was reportedly developing a sequel to its cooperative action RPG, Outriders. This project was internally codenamed Project Gemini.
The cancellation was initially reported by TheThumbWars and later confirmed by Insider Gaming, who stated the game was in the motion capture stage earlier this year before being shut down.
While official reasons for the project`s cancellation were not publicly announced, information from several sources suggests that difficulties arose due to funding issues and ineffective communication with the publisher, Square Enix. Project Gemini was one of two games canceled by the studio in June, a decision that subsequently led to layoffs affecting approximately 50 employees.
Despite the discontinuation of the Outriders 2 project, People Can Fly remains actively involved in other development initiatives. The studio is currently collaborating with Xbox Game Studios on the upcoming Gears of War: E-Day, working on Project Echo with Krafton, and developing Project Delta in partnership with Sony Interactive Entertainment.
