Rumors have surfaced indicating that several major Korean gaming companies have shown interest in the StarCraft universe and have approached Microsoft seeking licensing rights for the franchise.
According to reports, the list of interested companies includes NCSOFT, Nexon, Netmarble, and Krafton. Each company has its own vision for the future of StarCraft: Krafton is considering developing a new main installment in the series, Netmarble is interested in creating a mobile game, NCSOFT is showing interest in developing an MMO, and Nexon is looking for a “unique approach” to utilize the franchise. It is known that Microsoft is open to licensing StarCraft to third-party developers, but currently, there is no information on whether any agreements have been reached.
The StarCraft saga began in 1998. The first game received several expansions, and in 2010, the sequel was released. In 2017, Blizzard released StarCraft: Remastered. It was previously reported that Blizzard is developing an unannounced shooter, rumored to be connected to the StarCraft universe.
