Nintendo of America and the Seattle Mariners have announced an expansion of their long-standing partnership. The Mariners will now feature a jersey sleeve patch for the first time in team history as part of this expanded collaboration.

Nintendo revealed that their branding will appear on the Mariners’ jersey sleeves, marking a first for the baseball team. A preview showed the patch design for home games: the iconic Nintendo ‘racetrack’ logo on a red background. For away games, the sleeves will display the logo for the Nintendo Switch 2, an upcoming console scheduled for release later this year. The Mariners are unique in Major League Baseball as the first team to have different jersey patches for home and away games.

Accompanying the jersey patch announcement, a press release also stated that All-Star centerfielder Julio Rodriguez will become a brand ambassador for Nintendo and their partnership with the team.

Nintendo of America initially invested in the Mariners in 1992, with Nintendo’s then-CEO Hiroshi Yamauchi wanting to express gratitude to Seattle, the location of the company’s U.S. headquarters, for its community support. While Nintendo sold the majority of its stake in the team in 2016, they still retain a 10 percent ownership.
