Solo’s Dota 2 Warding Guide: Strategic Vision Placement

Professional Dota 2 player Alexey ‘Solo’ Berezin shared his insights on effective warding in the current meta. During a recent Twitch stream, he demonstrated optimal ward locations and explained how to adapt your vision strategy to different game scenarios.

Solo highlighted the ‘Quelling Blade’ as a useful tool for versatile warding. By cutting down trees, players can create unconventional ward spots that are harder for opponents to detect and remove. According to Solo, investing in a Quelling Blade allows supports to experiment with river vision by forging new paths. He showcased a couple of advantageous spots during his stream.

Specifically, Solo pointed out ideal warding locations for the Dire side when they are in a dominant position. The primary objective of these wards is to catch opponents while farming or to spot them leaving their base.

However, Solo emphasized that these suggested warding points are not rigid rules. He advised against шаблонное (template-based) warding, stressing the importance of adapting ward placement to the dynamic situation on the map.

“There’s little point in memorizing specific ward spots. It’s more about understanding what area you want to ward and why. In an even game, you ward half of the map, cutting off the portion where your team is playing. If you’re under pressure, you focus on warding and dewarding closer to your base for defense,”

Solo then elaborated on warding strategies for the Dire side when their team is at a disadvantage and the enemy is controlling more territory. He mentioned that numerous suitable positions exist, and their selection depends on the specific circumstances. Below are some example ward spots for defensive scenarios.

In conclusion, Berezin reiterated that there are no universally perfect ward locations. Effective warding should be based on the evolving game situation and the team’s objectives – where and how they intend to play. Solo added that deep wards are consistently valuable as they provide extensive information about enemy movements.

“The most fundamental thing to understand about warding is what area you want to see and where your team wants to play. That’s it. Generally, the deeper your wards, the better for your team because you gain more information. You’ll see when enemies are farming the ‘triangle’, how they are rotating. The deeper you can sneak in and place a ward unnoticed, the more information it gives you. That’s the overall mindset for warding, in short.”
