Dota 2 analyst Khaled “sQreen” El-Habbash has announced his departure from the position of Head of the Dota 2 division at the esports organization Edge. El-Habbash stated that combining a streaming career with working for a club is impossible due to championship rules. SQreen shared this information on his personal Telegram channel.
In his statement, sQreen explained that he has been involved in the Dota 2 scene for about five years as a consultant, assisting various organizations with roster building, sponsorship deals, and more based on his extensive experience. Recently, he helped the Edge organization facilitate a deal with Mosquito Clan to acquire their Dota 2 roster, which frequently participates in tier 1 tournaments. Given that Edge is a new organization, he had initially intended to stay and establish himself as Head of Dota 2, similar to his previous role at Mosquito Clan, in order to apply his knowledge of team formation and management at a tier 1 level.
He mentioned that prior to a streaming incident, he was consulting for Edge, and things were progressing well. However, current rules from most tournament organizers state that anyone associated with an organization cannot place bets on any tournament matches or even stream games from the tournament. This restriction made it impossible for him to continue his popular streams, which often involve betting and casting matches with predictions.
Consequently, sQreen stated he is now choosing to prioritize his streaming career and will no longer be associated with Edge. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity provided by Edge to be involved in the tier 1 scene, even if it was brief. He also outlined his immediate streaming plans, including covering Fissure Play-In and DreamLeague this month, before shifting focus to qualifiers for Riyadh and PGL Season 5.
SQreen originally joined Edge on April 19th. On the same day, El-Habbash launched a live stream where he watched and placed bets on matches from PGL Wallachia Season 4. Commenting on the situation at the time, sQreen remarked that his team would not be removed from the tournament because of his betting activities. Following this, PGL subsequently changed the rules for the event.
