Stellar Blade Director Admits Story Weakness

In a recent interview, Stellar Blade director Kim Hyung Tae frankly admitted the game`s story is weak. He noted that this aspect requires significant refinement and will be a central element of Shift Up`s next project. Although the game received high praise for its gameplay, visuals, and music, the story became a subject of criticism among players.

During a conversation with the Korean outlet This Is Game, Kim Hyung Tae explained that the combat system was developed quite early, but a full-fledged development of the narrative would have required large investments. The director emphasized the importance of cutscenes for revealing the plot, as conveying all the nuances is difficult through gameplay alone.

Initially, the studio planned a more complex story with a more detailed world and characters. However, the high cost of creating cutscenes forced them to scale back these plans. As a result, many plot elements were simplified for optimization, and attention was focused on the main narrative. Kim Hyung Tae promised that if a sequel is made, the team will certainly pay increased attention to the storyline, making it deeper and more interesting.
