The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered released

Following weeks of rumors and speculation, Bethesda has unexpectedly launched a remastered version of their acclaimed 2006 role-playing game, The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion. This modernized edition is now available on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Subscribers to Xbox Game Pass Ultimate and PC Game Pass can access the game at no additional cost.

The Oblivion Remastered features completely overhauled visuals powered by Unreal Engine 5. Importantly, it aims to preserve the majority of the original game`s core gameplay mechanics and underlying engine – embracing both its strengths and its notorious quirks. This new release includes all add-ons previously released for the original game, meaning players can experience the complete story without purchasing separate DLC.

For players seeking even more new content, the Oblivion Remastered Deluxe Edition offers additional elements, such as new quests that provide access to brand-new gear.

Certain aspects of the game`s systems have seen modifications. Character and skill leveling now incorporates elements influenced by Skyrim, differing from the original Oblivion. Movement has also been refined for a contemporary feel, with the introduction of a sprint ability – a change the developers noted came after significant internal deliberation. Furthermore, a host of new voice actors has been brought in to record dialogue that was previously unvoiced in the original game due to the storage limitations of physical media back in 2006.

`Oblivion was a really defining moment in the series and for how we make games as a studio,` stated Todd Howard, Bethesda studio head and creative director. `We want people to feel the way they did then, that it`s still a game of its time. You want to keep those bones in place. We want some of that old charm.`
