In the four years since Genshin Impact launched, a truly massive number of locations have been added, which could take years to fully explore and clear. But while traveling through some regions is easy and pleasant, others can cost you not just time, but also your sanity as you desperately search for chests and try to complete missing exploration percentages. This article will discuss precisely such locations.
Sumeru Desert
The Sumeru Desert gives many players nightmares. Developers seemingly thought that releasing incredibly vast stretches of land, plus an equally large number of underground locations, was a good idea. Alas, this gamble didn`t pay off and only exhausted many players, rightfully earning the title of the most “suffocating” location.
Despite the novelty and beautiful landscapes inspired by Ancient Egypt, the Sumeru Desert is simply riddled with monotonous underground corridors where it`s easy to get lost, even with the multi-layered map (considering the multi-layer feature wasn`t available upon the desert`s initial release).
While the first two parts of the desert were filled with repetitive corridors and endless sand, the final area forced players to struggle with the terrain and endless mountains, which are almost impossible to climb due to twisted ledges near the summit.
Even Sorush, a small creature meant to help you ascend and survey the surroundings, turned out to be quite useless in practice. The result is that amidst the endless sands and narrow corridors, there`s little room left for the joy of exploration.
Dragonspine
The snow-covered mountain near Mondstadt was a real challenge for Genshin Impact players for a long time, especially for beginners who had to explore Dragonspine to get rewards (and they were quite generous).
Unfortunately, while the new mechanic added some adrenaline to the game, requiring you to finish your tasks before your character froze to death, it also turned a potentially interesting area into a very frustrating location that is difficult and uncomfortable to explore. The gloomy atmosphere and mountainous terrain only worsened the situation, making Dragonspine extremely irritating for many players.
Moreover, the main quest to explore the mountain can also be called one of the most difficult in the game. Many newcomers had to ask for help from others, and some simply ignored the quest, never touching the snow-covered area teeming with dangerous enemies and complex puzzles.
The Chasm (Liyue)
The Chasm is an underground location in Liyue, home to various ore mining operations. While it didn`t attract as much hatred among players as the Sumeru Desert or some islands in Inazuma, exploring The Chasm also caused considerable trouble for several reasons.
Firstly, there`s the obligation to constantly carry the Luminestone Adjuvant, which helps you avoid stumbling through the mines in the dark. This is quite inconvenient if you need to activate your compass or NRE (Nutrient Package), requiring you to constantly swap items.
Secondly, The Chasm is very deep – sometimes one cave level is dozens of meters below another. Due to inconvenient rock formations, reaching some parts of the location is extremely difficult.
Furthermore, to unlock The Chasm, you have to complete a rather long and difficult quest in the aboveground part of the location, which is also extremely inconvenient to explore due to multi-level, funnel-like rock formations and Geo constructs tied to most puzzles.
Kannazuka & Yashiori Island (Inazuma)
Kannazuka is one of the islands in Inazuma where the Mikage Furnace once exploded, turning a prosperous area into a desolate one as a large amount of Electro energy was released into the air and water after the furnace malfunctioned.
This very island created many exploration obstacles, as approaching the center of Kannazuka can quickly leave you without characters: the “Thunder Manifestation” (referring to the environmental effect) will drain their HP in no time. Without completing the quest, this anomaly cannot be removed, making exploration extremely difficult: not only the water but also the air is electrified.
On the neighboring Yashiori Island, lightning storms rage, which also cannot be removed until the quest is completed. As long as the storm persists, the active character in the party should not stand still, otherwise, they are guaranteed to be struck by lightning, often multiple times. This also seriously hinders exploration of the already large island, which is inhabited by dangerous enemies.
