Tomb Raider TV Series Starring Lara Croft Canceled by Amazon After $100 Million Investment

Amazon has stopped the production of the Tomb Raider series. Daily Mail reported the cancellation of the show, citing their own sources.

According to media reports, the adaptation has not even received a complete script after several years of work. Furthermore, Amazon signed screenwriter Phoebe Waller-Bridge (“Fleabag,” “Killing Eve”) back in 2019 for $20 million per year. In addition, Sophie Turner (“Game of Thrones,” “X-Men”), who was considered for the role of Lara Croft, was too busy with other projects. The dismissal of Amazon Studios head Jennifer Salke, who initiated the show`s production, also dashed hopes for the series` revival. Insiders claim that over $100 million was spent on developing the series.

Initial information about Amazon`s plans to create a series about Lara Croft appeared back in January 2023, and an official announcement followed in 2024. Casting for the main role began later. Filming was expected to commence in 2025, but it did not happen.
