Universal Pictures has released the first trailer for “Wicked: For Good,” the second part of the highly anticipated film adaptation. The trailer was officially published online, announcing the movie`s premiere date set for November 21, 2025.
“Wicked: For Good” serves as the conclusion to the cinematic retelling of Gregory Maguire`s novel “Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West.” This acclaimed book also inspired the massively successful Broadway musical. The events depicted in the films unfold parallel to the narrative of L. Frank Baum`s classic “The Wonderful Wizard of Oz,” focusing on the complex relationship between Elphaba, destined to become the Wicked Witch of the West, and Glinda, later known as the Good Witch of the North.
Earlier, Cynthia Erivo, who stars as Elphaba in the “Wicked” films, became the subject of a fan-related controversy. In October, Universal Pictures revealed a new film poster intended as an homage to the original Broadway musical artwork. However, the studio`s version included subtle changes: Elphaba`s eyes were visible, and her lips were depicted in green. Subsequently, a fan modified the image to align more closely with the original Broadway poster`s appearance.
Erivo expressed significant displeasure regarding these fan edits. “It is the wildest and most offensive thing I`ve ever seen in my life,” the actress publicly stated. “It is not funny. It is not cute. It is demeaning to me. It is demeaning to all of us.” She elaborated that the poster`s illustration carries deliberate meaning, noting that her gaze directed at the camera signifies communication with the viewer. According to Erivo, removing her eyes from the image felt akin to erasing her very presence.
