Yellowstone Spin-off Announced, Focusing on Casey Dutton

CBS has given the green light for the creation of another spin-off series expanding the “Yellowstone” universe.

The network has commissioned 13 episodes, with production slated to begin this summer. The new show, titled “Y: Marshals,” is described as a procedural and will center on Casey Dutton, the youngest son of patriarch John Dutton from the original series. The premise involves Casey joining an elite U.S. Marshals unit. Utilizing his combined skills as a cowboy and a former Navy SEAL, he will work to bring justice to Montana.

The flagship series, “Yellowstone,” premiered in 2018. It follows the Dutton family`s efforts to protect their large Montana ranch from various threats, including land developers, a national park, and an Indian reservation. The show has been well-received, holding a rating of 8.7 out of 10 among users on platforms like IMDb and Kinopoisk.

The latter half of “Yellowstone`s” fifth and final season debuted on November 10, 2024, consisting of six episodes. Notably, Kevin Costner, who starred as John Dutton, did not appear in these concluding installments. His absence stemmed from a reported conflict with Paramount studio concerning the decision to divide the fifth season into two parts, which reportedly interfered with Costner`s own directorial project, “Horizon,” where he also served as writer, producer, and lead actor.
