Attention, adventurers and collectors! A significant opportunity has arisen for fans of the classic action RPG series, Ys. The physical “D1 Refined Edition” of Ys Memoire: The Oath in Felghana for the Nintendo Switch has reached a new all-time low price of just $35.
This is a considerable drop from its standard $50 price tag (and even further from its original $60 MSRP upon release in January). This deal is currently available through major retailers like Amazon and Walmart, seemingly tied to ongoing large-scale sale events.
For those unfamiliar, this isn`t just the game cartridge in a standard box. The “D1 Refined Edition” is presented in an oversized package containing several physical bonuses alongside the game itself:
- An Acrylic keychain
- A Diorama set
- Four collectible postcards
- The original soundtrack on CD (a tangible piece of history)
- A microfiber cloth (presumably to keep your Switch screen pristine while you ignore everything else)
The history of this particular Ys title is, shall we say, layered. It began life as Ys III: Wanderers from Ys back in 1989. It was later entirely remade as Ys: The Oath in Felghana for the PSP in 2005. That remake was then ported to PC in 2012, and it`s this PC port that serves as the foundation for the current “D1 Refined Edition” on Switch and PS5. It`s a testament to the game`s enduring quality that it keeps getting refined for new generations.
This latest “Refined Edition” includes welcome quality-of-life improvements such as a Turbo mode for faster gameplay (because sometimes you just need to *go*), optional updated character illustrations, and even voice acting for the ever-stoic protagonist, Adol Christin. Furthermore, it features three different iterations of the game`s renowned soundtrack, all presented with high-quality audio.
The story itself follows the red-haired adventurer Adol and his companion Dogi as they return to Dogi`s homeland, Felghana, after an eight-year absence. Naturally, they find the place overrun with deadly monsters and ruled by a cruel overlord. While Dogi seeks help, Adol, being Adol, immediately gets drawn into local affairs, uncovering conspiracies and ancient secrets in the process.
It`s worth noting that the PlayStation 5 version of this same edition proved quite popular and reportedly sold out earlier this year at Amazon and Walmart, with no current indication of restock at those specific retailers. While still available at other places like Best Buy, you`ll likely be paying the full $50 there. The Switch version`s current $35 price is a genuinely sharp markdown.
Incidentally, if you`re broadly interested in the series, the more recent entry, Ys X: Nordics Deluxe Edition, is also available at a discount at another retailer ($30 for PS5, $35 for Switch), offering another chance to jump into Adol`s latest adventures, though with a different set of included goodies.
Given the limited-time nature of these sales events and the previous availability issues with the PS5 version, securing the Switch physical edition at this price point seems like a prudent move for collectors and fans looking for a bargain on a well-regarded action RPG remaster packed with extras.
